Exciting events and things to do in Lancaster this Summer

We can safely say that Summer is officially in full swing! With sunshine and blue skies almost daily, you’ll be wanting to soak it all in. Whether you’re a new resident to our Forge Weir View community, or just in the area, there’s plenty of events happening that will get you out and about in Lancaster. With a range of activities to suit everyone, from heritage tours to outdoor cinema, you can make this a summer to remember.

Lancaster is a city full of heritage. No matter where you go you’ll find something to marvel at; whether you’re meandering through cobbled alleys or strolling through town, the thick stone architecture certainly sets Lancaster apart. That’s why Lancaster hosts a variety of walking tours for the curious mind. Whether you’re interested in learning about the city's 2,000-year development, it’s witchy history or literary significance, there is a tour for you.

Interested in the finer things in life? Why not explore the two art exhibitions currently housed in the Lancaster City Museum. Running until September 14th, you can witness Charlie Holt’s exhibit on Urban Palimpsest, presenting a unique mix of urban collage with elements of pop art and surrealism. While you’re there, take a gander at David Davies and Hannah Smeds-Davis exhibit ‘At 80’. Open to the public until September 7th, this pair is celebrating a major milestone and reflecting on their careers thus far.

Looking to fuel your child’s imagination whilst school’s out for the Summer holidays? Lancaster is full of fun opportunities to do just that! Take a trip up to the mini zoo at Williamson Park for their ‘Meet the Keeper’ event. Here, the kids can learn all about the tiny animals that reside in the park and even meet a few up close! From weaving to collaging, you can always find a selection of family-friendly workshops held at the Lancaster City Museum too.

Perhaps the event of the summer for many, The Dukes theatre is hosting Sunset Screenings of popular movies in the stunning Williamson Park. Running until the 24th August, you can catch recent releases like Us and Bohemian Rhapsody, as well as family classics like Jurassic Park and The Princess Bride. And with tickets starting at £6.50, how can you resist? It’s a brilliant way to end a fun-filled day at the park.

Whether you’ve just joined our Forge Weir View community, or passing through, we can all agree that Lancaster is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, especially this Summer.
